MEET THE FILMMAKERS
Jayden SIEGEL
Jayden Siegel is a senior at the Horace Mann School, graduating in 2022, where he is interested in film, entrepreneurship, social issues, psychology, and economics. He started the film club at Horace Mann and is an avid member of film classes and winner of the Gold medal for Experimental Film for the NY Alliance Film Festival. Jayden created this documentary, entitled “Modern Day Anti-semitism: Another Type of Bigotry Pervading American Society,” as a meaningful way to learn more about antisemitism and spread knowledge and awareness of this important social issue. Jayden is a proud Jew and a believer in equality and freedom of expression. This documentary represents both his growth as a filmmaker and storyteller and his desire to explore and understand the crippling divisiveness and hatred that plagues our country. He hopes that viewers will engage in dialog sparked by this film, in the hopes that attention and conversation will lead to solutions.
ANDREW ROVIT
Andrew Rovit is a senior in the Class of 2022 at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ. He possesses interest in film, media management, business, and social activism and paired these interests with the creation of his new documentary with Jayden entitled “Modern Day Anti-Semitism: Another Type of Bigotry Pervading American Society.” The documentary explores how social media and lack of youth education has allowed the current expansion and spread of Anti-Semitism in America. Andrew and Jayden talked about the other types of bigotry currently existing in society and attempt to foster an environment in which collaboration and unity can exist within these different minority groups. As a four year IB Filmmaker, Andrew’s work in the documentary represents his growth as both a filmmaker and a thinker. He hopes that this piece of art will invoke a conversation in the hatred seen towards not only the Jews but also towards African Americans, Asian Americans, Muslims, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and other minority groups.
